Assembly and painting are required. Item is brand new and in its original factory packaging. Deployed to the Western Pacific, she took part in the First Battle of Guadalcanal in 1942, and throughout 1943 conducted patrols and escort missions in the Solomon Islands, providing cover for new landings north of Guadalcanal. On January 11, 1943, Fletcher sank the Japanese submarine I-18. In 1944, she supported operations in the Philippines, including covering the Luzon invasion, providing fire support at Nasugbu Bay, aiding in the occupation of Corregidor, and participating in minesweeping in Manila Bay, before returning to the U. West Coast for major repairs on May 13, 1945. Decommissioned and sealed at San Diego on January 15, 1947, Fletcher was reactivated on October 3, 1949, as an escort destroyer, later serving in the Korean War and as an anti-submarine training vessel in China, before being decommissioned again in 1969 and scrapped in 1972. Over her distinguished career, Fletcher earned 15 battle stars in World War II and 5 in the Korean War, for a total of 20. The model kit features a one-piece hull formed by two-directional slide molds, finely rendered deck patterns, two photo-etched frets with handrails, ladders, and radar parts, as well as a display stand and nameplate.
